Let’s do this.

Records · Verification table

Clicks and fields for every Do-page action, 6 November 2026

The working record behind the pages, published as written. Source file source/verify/clicks-2026-11-06.md. All records.

What this is. The design brief promises: "For every action on every Do page, record the number of clicks and fields from the page to completion, and put the lowest-click path first." This file is that record for the five Do pages (content/child-hunger-do.html, trafficking-do.html, cybercrime-do.html, inequality-do.html, ai-do.html): the three numbered steps in <ol class="steps">, and every give, sign-up and report link in the sections below them, plus the settings paths those steps send readers to. The cost tags at the end are proposals only. No page was edited.

Decision this feeds. Whether each step's cost tag gains a click-and-field count, and which path each step lists first. Who decides: Isaac, from this file.

MISMATCH: where the destination no longer matches the page

Read these first. Each is something a reader following the page today would notice.

  1. ALIMA, child hunger, "If you want to treat malnourished children". The page says: "choose United States, then Recurring donation." The donate page has no country choice. It carries one embedded form in US dollars whose toggle reads One-time | Monthly; "recurring" appears only in the prose beside it. The path today is Monthly → amount ($25 is preset) → Make a donation, then a details step that asks for a phone number (required) and a ticked terms box.
  2. Restore NYC, trafficking, "Where to give". The link restorenyc.org/donate/give-monthly/ now redirects to restorenyc.org/get-involved/freedom-collective/. Monthly giving there is called "Join the Freedom Collective", and the form pre-ticks "Cover fees": a $50 gift shows as $56.00 / Month unless the reader taps Edit.
  3. usa.gov, inequality step 2 and AI "Ask for one thing". Both pages say "Find your state legislators at usa.gov." usa.gov/elected-officials has no lookup for state legislators. Its line "Find the names and current activities of state and territorial legislators" links to congress.gov's list of state legislature websites; the reader then opens their state's own site and uses its finder. That is three clicks before any lookup, and the last step differs by state. Plural's tool, also on the AI page, takes an address directly.
  4. IRS Identity Protection PIN, cybercrime section 4. The page says "Optional, 5 more minutes." The IRS page says: "If you don't already have an account on IRS.gov, you must register to validate your identity to use either method." "Get an IP PIN" leads to IRS sign-in. Five minutes holds only for someone who already has an IRS online account.
  5. Content Credentials, AI "Telling what's real". The page says to drag a file "into contentcredentials.org/verify". That address now redirects to verify.contentauthenticity.org, so the address bar shows a different domain from the one the page names. The tool itself works the same way: one button, "Select a file from your device or drag and drop".
  6. Experian, cybercrime section 4 (minor). The link experian.com/freeze/center.html redirects to experian.com/help/credit-freeze/. The online freeze starts there with "Create a free account", and step one asks for a mobile number and the last four digits of a Social Security number, then says "You'll need your phone to finish the next step." The phone number on our page, 1-888-397-3742, is on Experian's page as written.

Checked and still matching: GiveWell's form (Monthly toggle at the top; a "Donate to" list preset to All Grants Fund, with Top Charities Fund in it); UNICEF USA's carton at $47.00; the Freedom Fund taking one-time gifts only (its form has no monthly control); the hotline web form's own warning ("if the situation is urgent or occurred within the last 24 hours we would encourage you to call, text or chat"); Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC ("two outings a month", "a minimum commitment of at least one year"); Milk with Dignity's own figures ("54 participating farms", "611 violations"); NYC Free Tax Prep recruiting for the 2027 season, with its last listed info session on 3 December 2026; both New York bills still sitting in the Assembly (S00335 "referred to economic development" 6 May 2026; S01477A "referred to judiciary" 2 June 2026); Hand in Hand's agreements download with no sign-up.

Method

When and how. Every walk ran on 2026-11-06 between 10:51 and 11:18 EST, in headless Chrome driven over the DevTools protocol, at desktop width (1280 px), with no saved logins and no cookies carried between walks. The browser sent an ordinary Chrome user-agent string. Each run recorded every page load, the HTTP status of each page, and every form field on each stop, including fields hidden in later steps of the same form, with the label each field shows and whether it is marked required. A screenshot was taken at each stop and read.

What was never done. No form was submitted, no money moved, no account was created, no report was filed, no chat was opened, and no personal data was typed. The only things typed were a dollar amount ($5) into GiveWell's amount box. The walks did press buttons that move a form from one step to the next when that step held only a choice of amount or frequency (GiveWell "Next", IRC and ALIMA "Donate monthly" / "Make a donation", Restore NYC "Continue" and "Card", GiveDirectly "Give $40 monthly", UNICEF "Add this gift to bag", "Checkout" and "Guest checkout", the IRS volunteer form's first two "Next" buttons, the senate.gov state list, the FTC and identity-theft assistants' multiple-choice questions). Every walk stopped at the first step that asks for a name, an email, an identity number or a card. Search boxes (ZIP and address finders) were left empty: the count is the box and its button, and the results page is marked "not run".

How counts are made.

What would overturn a count. A form that renders differently for a signed-in reader, on a phone, outside the US, or under an A/B test. The IRC's amount buttons changed between two loads of the same address minutes apart ($250 … $10, then $300 … $10), so these forms are being tested on live visitors. Counts for "partly walked" rows beyond the first personal-data step come from markup, not from what a reader saw, and can be off by the fields a form shows only conditionally.

Staleness. Donation and sign-up forms change without notice; treat every count here as "as of 6 November 2026" and re-walk before printing a count on a page. The monthly external link check (tools/links.py --external) does not catch any of the changes above, because every link still answers 200.

Proposed cost tags (proposals only; no page edited)

Format follows the pages' own <span class="cost">: time · money · clicks, fields. Counts are to the final button, from the tables above. Where a step offers several routes, the tag gives the lowest-click route and the step's text would list that route first.

Ordering changes these counts would suggest (proposals): child hunger step 2, list the IRC before ALIMA, and give ALIMA's path as "Monthly → amount → Make a donation"; trafficking step 1, say which listed group is monthly and how many clicks each takes; inequality step 2 and AI "Ask for one thing", put Plural (or the state's own finder) before usa.gov; cybercrime section 1, link Bitwarden's sign-up (bitwarden.com/go/start-free/) rather than its pricing page; inequality step 1, link GiveDirectly's home page widget as the first stop and drop "→ Donate".
